I'm getting sick of it. The course titles, blog posts and webinar tag lines that read "The Top <Insert # Here> Tips to <Insert Action Here> with <Insert Social Media Site/Tool Here>." Gimme a break. Please.
Only That Many?
Why did we land on that number? Were
there only that number of benefits with this
site/tool/platform/widget? Who determined this magic number? You?
Someone else? And what makes you think that a number associated with
the title is going to attract me to read your blog post or attend your
webinar? Am I part of a herd that only flocks to offerings that have
numbers associated with them?
Much like book titles of late, with their Title: Subtitle,
the number indexed titles are everywhere, on more than 75% of the event
titles, blog posts and courses published today. So much so, that I'm
convinced there's a training program out there for course writers,
event planners and blog authors. It's titled: "20 Reasons to Have
Numbers in Your Titles."
If you're a blog author, course writer or speaker that's incorporating numbers into your speech titles and blog posts, stop it. You're not standing out from the crowd. You're part of the crowd.
